Why Behind the Thinking #
The order of operations between strategy and creativity determines the outcome. When strategy is the frame, the operator decides what to win first, then gets creative about how — creativity stays in service of a defined target. When creativity is the frame, the operator chases the idea first and back-fills a strategy to justify it — the idea sets the direction instead of the target. The first builds operators because the win condition stays fixed while the tactics flex; the second builds dead concepts because the tactics stay fixed (the idea) while the operator searches for a market or rationale to fit it. When strategy is the frame, creativity stays in service of a defined target. When creativity is the frame, the idea sets the direction instead of the target.
