Definition #
A designed, written, owned artifact that names what right looks like across all five fundamentals. The universal reference standard the operation is measured against.
Family #
Perspective / Performance framework. Cross-cuts all five fundamentals as the universal reference standard. Antagonist of [Informal Instrumentation] — the operation that runs on tribal knowledge has no Ideal Path. Pairs with [Operator’s Filter] as the standard the Filter is protecting.
Why Behind the Thinking #
The operator who has not written down what right looks like cannot hold a standard — because the standard only exists in their head. When it only exists in their head, it leaves when they leave, drifts when they are not present, and cannot be taught to cast or measured against outcomes. The [Operator’s Ideal Path] is the discipline of making the standard explicit, permanent, and transferable. It is the foundation every other system in the operation is built on top of. The load-bearing refinement is “institutionalized” — formalized means written down; institutionalized means built into the operation’s structure such that it propagates, updates, and binds every actor without depending on individual memory or interpretation. Institutionalization is what prevents conflicts between competing “ideal paths” from forming in the first place, rather than resolving them after the fact.
