The mismatch between the speed at which a Guest decides where to go for a given occasion and the speed at which the operator is built to see and respond to that decision.

Why Behind the Thinking #
The Guest is not choosing a category on an eighteen-month analyst arc — they are choosing one option, right now, for this occasion, at their own speed. The gap has four dimensions the operator must see before closing it: the need (a real, currently unfilled gap, not a hope); the window (how long it stays open, narrowing every week the operator doesn’t move); the fit (whether closing it aligns with the operator’s own [Meaningfully Differentiated Value] or pulls toward someone else’s game); and the resources (whether the operator can marshal the capital, cast, systems, time, and focus required, weighed against [Ground Loss Tax] running while he decides). The operator cannot move at the Guest’s instant speed of choice, but the distance between the two speeds is the variable the operator controls — closed only by better information feeding faster, better-informed decisions.
